• The history of Library Services in Oyo State dates back to 1955 when the western Regional Government led by the late sage, Chief Obafermi Awolowo Started the free Primary education programme. The Library was established to support students in formal education and provide reading opportunities for those seeking informal process to further their education.
  • However, it was not until August, 1988 that library Services had a facelift with the inauguration of a Board as an autonomous parastatals in the Ministry of Education backed by an enabling Law Oyo State 2000, Cap 109 ,Oyo State Library Edict, No.18 of 1988.
  • The State Librarian/ General manager as the CEO of the Board sees to the day running of the establishment and reports directly to the Honourable Commissioner for Education according to the Edict that established the Board. The establishment is organized into four (4) departments, each performing distinct but relevant functions. These are.
  • Public Library Services
  • School Library Services
  • Administration and Supplies
  • Finance and Accounts.
  • The Board has its Headquarters Opposite Cocoa House, Dugbe Ibadan Other branches:-
  • Elekuro Branch Library , Elekuro Ibadan.
  • Secretariat Branch; Archives Building, Ministry of Information
  • Oyo Branch Library, Erelu, Oyo Town.
  • Ogbomoso Zonal library, Arowomole, Ogbomoso.
